Lynette Brings Home the Bacon in a 'Desperate' Move! Plus a HUGE Pass the Remote Announcement

What is it with boys and their silly games of dunking donuts in the toilet and catching cereal in their mouths just to create a common bond in the workplace? You throw in their silly fraternity bragging rights and you have a recipe for disaster, or in Tom's case, a recipe for "Toilet Boy." Yes, Ed got the better of Tom last night on Desperate Housewives when he succeeded in making him his "bitch." Lynette, on the other hand, not only rose to the challenge and ate an entire pound of raw bacon, but she also turned the rest of the office against Ed's little challenges. Sure, she more than likely had a nasty stomach ache after it was all said and done, but she beat Ed at his own game making it all well that ends well. Susan decided that she had to get married in order to have health insurance for her pending "wandering spleen" surgery ("It only sounds silly because of the word spleen"), so she enlists the help of a man who is waiting for his sick mother to die before he can marry his life partner (because he is afraid to tell his mother that he is gay). The marriage doesn't go through, and she winds up with Carl. We can only imagine what Edie's reaction will be when she finds out because you know she will. Of all the scenarios between Bree and Betty that played out in my head, none of them included Bree having sympathy for Betty. I can't figure out whether Betty was just playing her like a fiddle, or if she was telling the truth with true emotion. I'm not even sure if I believe that Caleb is responsible for the young girl's death. And finally, there was Gabby and her quest to keep the perfect maid. I know it was perfectly in character with Gabby, but this storyline seemed a little insensitive to me. I guess it was just the whole idea of playing the "you have nothing and I have everything so you should want to work for me" card for laughs. I just hope that Gabby starts treating that poor girl better than she did leading up to her decision to stay in America. This show is always over the top, but sometimes it takes it a little too far. Overall though, a strong episode that both furthered the plot and gave us plenty of laughs.

A Pass the Remote First!!!
I have been promising you since last week that I would have a HUGE Pass the Remote announcement today, and I intend to deliver. First, are you a fan of Veronica Mars? If not, you'll want to rent, buy, borrow, etc the first season DVD set and watch the show Wednesdays on UPN to catch up on what you have been missing so you can take part in this exciting announcement. Because, at the end of this month I will be traveling to the show's San Diego set to take part in The Veronica Mars Bloggers Press Day! That's right, I'll be touring the set and having lunch with creator/executive producer Rob Thomas! Plus, I'm told there will be opportunities for cast meet and greets too. Of course, I will be giving all of you my full report when I return including all the answers you have been looking for straight from the source. This is where you come in. Do you have a burning question for Rob and co? Then send it to me and I'll try my best to get it answered. You can either leave me a comment with your questions, or email them to:

veronicaquestions@yahoo.com

I'll be on the set February 27th, so you have two weeks to come up with those questions. I will also remind you as we get closer to the date.

About Last Night...NBC won the first hour of the night with its Olympic coverage, followed by the second hour of ABC's Extreme Makeover: Home Edition and CBS' Cold Case (r). At 9, NBC continued its dominance with its Olympic coverage, followed by ABC's Desperate Housewives and CBS' movie The Sum of all Fears. The final hour of the night went to ABC's Grey's Anatomy (which got better ratings than Housewives for the first time ever), followed by NBC's Olympic coverage and CBS' movie. For more on last night's ratings, visit Zap2it.

~Primetime Pass~
@8 p.m. - NBC's Olympic coverage continues with the gold-medal final of the pairs figure skating free skate, the gold-medal final on the women's snowboarding halfpipe and the gold-medal final on the men's 500m speed skating. Over on Fox, another pair is eliminated on Skating with Celebrities.

@9 p.m. - Agent Bauer attempts to stop a deadly threat on Fox's 24. Over on ABC, Travis takes each of the remaining three women on an overnight date on a two-hour edition of The Bachelor. UPN's Half & Half marks the first of a three-episode arc with guest star Michelle Williams from Destiny's Child.

QUICK CUTS

*Fox's 24 is bringing back two characters for a special 2-hour event next month. The episodes will also include two additions to the cast: Ray Wise and C. Thomas Howell. In the episodes, Jack tries to reestablish communication with someone from his past. For more on the back-to-back episodes, including which two characters are coming back and other spoilers, visit The Futon Critic. The special two-episode event airs March 6th on Fox.

*It seems we will have to wait a little longer before we can catch all new episodes of the WB's Everwood. The network decided last week that the show will start its second season March 27th instead of the previously announced March 20th. The move is designed to allow freshman drama Related to air back-to-back episodes on the 20th, and thus, ending its season. Everwood will return with back-to-back episodes of its own on March 27th. In other scheduling news, ABC is benching Commander In Chief three weeks earlier than previously announced. The political drama, starring Geena Davis as the first female president, is off the air now and will return April 18th to finish out its first season.

*And finally, it's TV on DVD Monday! Look for the first season of Grey's Anatomy to hit store shelves tomorrow along with The Andy Griffith Show (season 5), Charles in Charge (season 1), Golden Girls (season 4) and Living Single (season 1). For a complete list of tomorrow's releases, visit tvshowsondvd.com.

That's all for today. Be sure to tune in tomorrow for the Movers & Shakers edition of Pass the Remote (Which shows' storylines are improving as the season goes along? Which are faltering? Which shows can't we get enough of? And which do we wish would finally make their way to the big TV heaven in a storage case on a network shelf somewhere?). Plus, all the latest television news. And don't forget to send in those questions via the comment link here on the blog or email them to veronicaquestions@yahoo.com.

I know what you mean about Gabby's storyline on DH. But it certainly was Gabby in true form! Looking forward also to Edie's reaction as well.

DH is sounding complicated!! Like a soap opera but funnier :D. I can sorta imagine the Gabby storyline--it probably would've made me grit my teeth too. I'm guilty of not following that show this season either :(.

As you already know, you have my full and heartfelt congratulations about UPN and Veronica Mars!!!

As you know, I haven't been too faithful with VM, so I have questions, but I wanna ask you FIRST, because if they've been answered I don't wanna make a fool of myself.

1. Is there a reason why they live in Neptune and Veronica's last name is Mars? Both planets--it was the 1st thing that struck me--I always wondered.

2. When and how did Veronica become an investigator? Was she one "before" the series or did it start with the Pilot?

Ok, enough for now. Take care!!

Those are great questions! Regarding the first one, I believe creator Rob Thomas has said that it was a coincidence about the planets, but it's worth finding out for sure. Regarding the second one, she was already a PI in the pilot, and I believe she got involved because her father ran the office. Prior to that, he was the sheriff who "bumbled the Lilly Kane murder." So, she hadn't been a PI for too long when the show started because her father hadn't.
