Tuesday's News & Notes

Here's a look at today's biggest TV news, tonight's hottest programs and last night's biggest ratings winners.

QUICK CUTS
*COLD CASE FANS!!! As promised, I have the information straight from the source on the ending song from this week's episode of the hit crime drama. According to my contact at Warner Bros. Television, the song, "Scarlet Rose," is an original piece written and recorded for Cold Case. The episode's writer, Gary Whitney Harris, and the show's composer, Michael Levine, wrote the lyrics and Gary Haase wrote the music. Levine also composed last season's original song "300 Flowers." New York studio musicians performed the piece with Alexa handling the vocals. This is the second time that the series has used an original work as a closing song. Last season's "Beautiful Little Fool" featured the original song "300 Flowers."

*And finally, NBC's decision to air a new episode of Friday Night Lights after Heroes last night paid off. Lights' ratings soared, thanks to its superheroes lead-in. The series picked up a million viewers in its special night and time and gave NBC its best ratings in the slot since earlier this month. More than 8.2 million viewers caught the Lights last night, an all-time high for the series. If you missed the episode, be sure to tune in to an encore presentation tonight at 8 p.m. on NBC.

'Lights' Gets Brighter

When television critics from around the country gathered for the Summer Press Tour this past July, they reviewed trailers for most of the new fall shows. Once the trailer for Friday Night Lights wrapped, the critics (who are used to seeing all sorts of television shows over the years) gave the preview a standing ovation. This is how I feel after every single episode of this show. I want to jump up and clap as hard as I can. In all of my years of watching television, I've never seen a show where I felt the same. Sure, plenty of excellent shows have standing ovation-inducing episodes (such as Everwood's series finale, a number of Veronica Mars' episodes and Cold Case's season premiere), but none has moved me to feel that way each and every week. Friday Night Lights shines because it focuses on the people of Dillon, Texas and their daily trials. Tonight's episode (an encore of last night's special night and time) is a classic example of why this show is so good, and it's the perfect time to jump in. With the team coming off a loss and a coach's job on the line, the entire season hinges on a single gutsy play that will stop your heart and have you on the edge of your seat. If football isn't your thing, then tune in to watch a young man struggle with the realization that he will never walk again or a young girl who is angry at herself for carrying on a relationship with her boyfriend's best friend or tune in just to see the shocking revelation in the last five minutes. Whatever your reason, this is TV that is too good to miss.

Find out why Friday Night Lights is "PTR's Best Show You're Not Watching" tonight at 8 p.m. on NBC. Get caught up now at nbc.com.

Claire Needs Her Own 'Heroes'

This week, Heroes decided to change things up a bit. Instead of leaving the Wow! moment for the end of the episode, they put it in the middle. Sweet little innocent Eden is working with Claire's father!!! This is bad for so many reasons. She told him about Peter, a hero whom can "stop time" and the cryptic message "Save the cheerleader. Save the world." The last part is all sorts of bad considering that "the cheerleader" is his own daughter. Having Eden as his spy allows him to have inside information on so many of the heroes because she has been working with Mohinder. And then, he told her to bring in "the precog." The end of the episode had Eden knocking on Isaac's door. This is not good. Not good at all. Speaking of Claire and her evil father, I don't think that she met her real "bio parents." It seemed that he arranged for some people to play the part of her biological parents just to appease Claire and to keep her from looking for her real ones. The question is, why? Was he just being a typical father and worrying that his adopted daughter would like her biological parents better? Or, does he know something about her parents and how they relate to her indestructibility?

Meanwhile, Niki's multiple personality power is getting her into more trouble, especially since she isn't the only member of her family with a secret. Her husband can walk through walls! Even worse, he can reach through bodies, and that's how we left Niki. She was lying on the floor unconscious after D.L. used his power against her because her alternate personality betrayed him. So, it seems that many of our heroes are in peril this week. If you missed last night's episode, you can watch it from free at nbc.com.

Teams Look for their Lost Shaker of Salt

Karma is such a huge force on The Amazing Race. The nasty teams -- Rob/Kim, the blondes, and the male models -- all had bad things happen to them this week. The blondes were involved in a car accident, Rob/Kim's car broke down and the models kept getting lost. It's what they get for playing dirty (in Rob/Kim's case, it has more to do with how they treat each other). Meanwhile, the "Six Pack" are still hanging on. Even when Kentucky came in last, it was another non-elimination round, and they were once again spared (although, marked for elimination). As surprising as that outcome was, I'm more intrigued by the fact that there's a country out there that I have never heard of in all my years of schooling. But, now that I'm familiar with Mauritius, I am dying to take a "vaca" (tm Kim) there sometime. Here's a look at some of last night's most entertaining moments.

*Don't get me wrong, I love the newly named "Six Pack," but I'm a little concerned that their strong alliance may end up being their downfall. I have no doubt that it has gotten them this far, but we're getting down to crunch time and waiting on two other teams is going to go from advantageous to race-ending very quickly. I think they should keep the alliance, but things need to be amended. The Bama girls seem to have the right attitude about it. You work together when you can, but you worry about winning the race and staying in it the rest of the time. Had Kentucky arrived at the Pit Stop before the Bama girls, it would have been crazy for them to wait for the Bama girls as they planned. Nice, but crazy.

*It seems that Jimmy Buffett was onto something when he sang about the difficulties of "searchin' for [his] lost shaker of salt" because that Detour was impossible!! Still, I think that Kentucky should have stayed. Of course, I've been watching this show long enough to know that you should never choose the "Needle in the Haystack" challenge.

*Not that it ended up mattering, but the blondes' move at the airport with the tickets was ridiculous. How rude can these two be on this race? Of course, the karma force that I spoke of came back and bit them in the arse later in the form of a fender bender. The models were just as wrong for going along and then getting nasty with Bama.

So once again, Kentucky is marked for elimination. I'm not sure that a Fast Forward is going to save them this time around. I'm just hoping that their karma hasn't run out. What did you think about last night's episode? Were you relieved that Kentucky was saved or annoyed that they won the reprieve once again? Leave me a message with your thoughts.

This 'Case' Still Smelling Like a Rose

Oh my gawd! Hannah's back and she's the daughter of a popular Philadelphia DJ from the late 1950s!! I'm just a teeny bit excited about seeing Everwood's Sarah Drew on last night's episode of Cold Case. Her character couldn't have been more different from her role as Hannah. I was getting misty-eyed reminiscing about one of television's greatest shows, and how The CW shelved it way before its expiration date. Luckily, the brilliant Cold Case still exists and we're able to enjoy Sarah Drew's enormous talent, despite The CW. Question for all you psychology majors: Why do I always hesitate whenever this show does an older case and then sing its praises as soon as it's over? I never like the idea of the older cases, and then when I see them on my screen, I'm once again surprised and pleased at how frakkin' brilliant Cold Case is at doing the older stories. Perhaps I just answered my own question because CC does older flashbacks like no other show on television. They make you believe that it's really 1958 and you're swinging your big, flowing skirt around in huge circles to the beat of the brand new rock and roll sound while sipping a soda pop at the local diner. The folks at CC are geniuses at set design, direction, cinematography, music, costumes, writing, dialog and everything else that contributes to the authentic look and feel of the show's period stories. And I don't know how or why this happens, but these older cases always engage me more, even though my faves are the ones that I can relate to better (the 80s and sooner). The stories are more enthralling, the characters more interesting, which is saying a lot for a show that ALWAYS makes its "murder-of-the-week" characters multi-dimensional and fascinating. CC is more of a psychological show anyway, so perhaps, the psychology of a different time is what makes the older ones so appealing. Whatever it is, CC never fails to shine when it takes us back to a different time.

There are a lot of arguments out there that say that procedural shows such as Cold Case should stick to the case-of-the-week and steer clear of any personal stories for its main characters. Those who argue for this clearly aren't watching CC this season. I've never seen a procedural weave cases and personal drama so beautifully together. Even in Without a Trace's heyday, it never accomplished the amazing feat that we are witnessing with CC's 4th season. First, we had Lilly a little torn between Joseph and Ray. That one ended (for now?) last week, but this show didn't skip a beat. It promptly picked up the Scotty story line from one of the earlier episodes this season without breaking the case's (or the show's) flow. Clearly, this boxing coach sexually assaulted Mike. In a cleverly-casted flashback, we were easily able to see the effect that the encounter had on Mike and the effect that it continues to have on him today. There's only one problem -- Mike isn't ready to face what happened to him so many years ago. Speaking of which, wouldn't the statute of limitations be up on any abuse with Mike? I guess his testimony could help put the coach away for any current abuses he may have committed. Either way, Scotty has a long road ahead of him. And with CC at the helm, it should be a well played one. Bravo Cold Case!

And just a musical note: If, like me, you're wondering about that "Scarlet Rose" song that played such an important role in tonight's episode, stay tuned to Pass the Remote. I have a feeling that this is another CC original (like last season's "300 Flowers" from the episode "Beautiful Little Fool."), but I intend to track it down. I will post all the info on "Scarlet Rose" as soon as I find it.

FRIDAY FUN: Get a Whole Different 'Take'

Over the summer, I told you guys about the Travel Channel's fabulous documentary-style weekly series 5 Takes. The show consists of five travel journalists, or "TJs," who document their journeys and experiences with their own cameras, laptops and a camera crew while traveling a designated itinerary. But wait, there's more! Viewers, through the show's message board, help the participants choose what they see and do while they visit different locations. Last season, the 5 Americans visited the Pacific Rim and traveled through Australia, New Zealand, Thailand and other fascinating places. This season, they're traveling to... wait for it... the USA!!! And right now you're asking yourself, how can 5 people's perspectives on the USA be interesting? Well, the five TJs are all from other countries. So, you'll be able to see our country through non-American eyes. The group will hit Austin, TX; Washington, DC; Las Vegas; Miami; Anchorage, Alaska; Memphis, TN; and New York. Your 5 TJs for this edition are:

Bevis, 22, Taiwan

Jaime, 28, Singapore

Lena, 26, West Java

Tim, 24, Australia

Zach, Phillipines

5 Takes USA
premieres this Saturday, October 28th, at 10 p.m. on the Travel Channel. For more on the series, visit travelchannel.com. All of the photos in this edition are courtesy of the Travel Channel/Discovery Communications.

Thursday's News & Notes

So, I know that I haven't been around as much these past few days (there's been drama -- and not just the stuff on my TV), but I'm back up to speed now. And I know I suck because I didn't do a Top Model post today (again, the drama), so I'll just recap my thoughts in two sentences:

1) There's always a "Left Field" elimination. Last night's goodbye to Brooke is this season's. Did they kick her off on the night of her high school graduation on purpose? I mean her picture sort of bit it, but she had been pretty consistent up until that point.

2) Melrose must go! Even though her romance novel photo shoot is the recipient of PTR's Top Photo of the Week:

'Lost' on Another Island

Another week, another edition of PTR's team coverage on Lost. Here's what Turtlemama and I have to say:

Turtlemama says: Last night’s ‘Lost’ actually revealed a little more, but again….not much more.

We learned that someone has a spinal tumor (Henry/Ben/Whoever the creepy dude is) and surprise, surprise Jack’s a spinal surgeon. Coincidence? I think not (of course no one else does either, because as we know, in this show there is no such thing as coincidence).

The lightning scene was a little interesting, with ‘Brotha’s ‘ (Desmond) new found clairvoyance that is sure to help the survivors when they finally have a meet up with The Others.

We got to see another survivor, or was he one of the ones we saw before? Honestly, I think they should have shown more survivors in the beginning rather than waiting until they’ve killed off so many that they have to just magically throw in people that we don’t know, but the other characters (the ones we DO know about) know them. Wow that was a confusing run-on sentence wasn’t it?)

Ok, by a show of hands, who had it figured out that the pacemaker thing was a psychological thing and not actual? I mean the whole island is a psychological test, right? And why did they show Sawyer the islands? I can’t figure that one out.

Also, at the end did anyone else get the impression that The Others want to work together with the survivors? I mean if they joined forces they could have one cool little community in paradise! How neat would THAT be? People are weird sometimes and really…Shiny, Happy People don’t make good TV right?

I don’t know if I believe that Kate actually ‘loves’ Sawyer, I mean dude I’d say anything if someone was beating up someone else that I cared about even if only a little, you know?

Maybe I’m not paying close enough attention, but this season has opened up all new questions, so much that I’m starting to forget my original questions that I had from the very beginning.

TVFan says: This is exactly why I don't give up on shows. Once awesome = the potential to be awesome once again. I wouldn't go so far as to call last night's outing "awesome," but it was pretty damn good. In fact, it gets my "Best of the Season Thus Far" award. I think what made this one so good was the fact that it didn't focus on just one group. There was a nice nix between Jack, Kate and Sawyer's story and the rest of the survivors. I knew that Ben was fibbing about the pacemaker. He loves to use mind games, so it wasn't a surprise to see him use one here. Of course, he could have been fibbing the second time. As much as I like the New Adventures of Jack, Kate and Sawyer, I'm beginning to think that the Others are a little too diabolical. Then again, it is the survivors who keep killing the Others (and their own!) and not the other way around. Claire and her baby were returned, and Michael got Walt back. The survivors, on the other hand, have killed Shannon, Ana Lucia, Libby, Ethan, the random man with the tallies and now this woman. Perhaps there is something to the theory that the Others aren't the "evil" ones. Interesting that Juliet is a fertility doctor considering that the Others had pregnant Claire for a bit of time. Of course, the night's biggest shocker was the revelation that the Others are on a different island than the survivors. Or are they?? Last night's episode was a "finally!" moment for this show. Things are beginning to get really good just as the show is about to take a 3-month hiatus. Frak!

If you missed this week's episode, you can watch it for free at abc.com. All of the screencaps in this edition are courtesy of Lost-Media.com.

Gilmore Girls ask "What’s the Dill, Pickle?"

Last night’s episode of Gilmore Girls had a few ‘pickles’ in it, but it was still an excellent episode! Let’s get down to the real dill, shall we? (Yeah, I’ll stop with the pickle jokes too, maybe.)
As if you didn’t already catch on a train full of pickles derailed and sent the scent of rotting pickles wafting into Stars Hollow. That wasn’t the largest issue to plague ‘The Girls’ last night. Christopher received a letter from Sherry stating that she wanted a relationship with Gigi. Lorelei didn’t like the idea (does she really have a say in that? Uhhhh NO!) and didn’t want to tell Chris the truth. Then she realized that she had to talk to him about, which she chose to do on the way to Friday Night Dinner. I might be the only GG fan out there that thinks this but I’m sort of sick of Lorelei having an opinion on EVERYTHING and telling everyone how to act/react because of HER opinion. It’s isn’t like she just has an opinion, but she’s lost many, many relationships because of her outspoken, pushy demeanor. Hmmm she sounds like her mother, actually! Another thing about the whole Lorelei/Chris/Sherry/Gigi thing is that Chris made the comment “Gigi is really excited to see her mom again and get to know her.” Um, Gigi was TWO when Sherry left, there is no way she can remember who her mother is and then be EXCITED about going to a foreign place with her nanny to meet up with a stranger who she’s told is her mother. It just isn’t possible, even if your 4-year-old is a genius, I still doubt it could happen…and I’ve had 2 4-year-old and am working on the 2-year-old…He can’t remember where he put his sippy cup 10 minutes ago, let alone remember someone that he meets this year then talks to on the phone in 2 years. So, yeah that one made me pause the TiVo and exclaim to the husband “WHAT?! That’s not possible!” I know, I get wrapped up a bit too much sometimes.

Image courtesy of cwtv.comNow, over to Rory…Logan surprised her by getting her to the roof for a romantic dinner while he was in town for business. Now, at the end of the show you might notice the young girls talking about the show. One of them asked “Would Logan have come to visit Rory if he wasn’t there on business?” The answers, my young friends is NO! He’s busy…when you’re older and get a career and/or marry someone with a career you’ll understand. It’s not as romantic as you believe it to be when you’re a kid. You can’t just take off and go wherever you want whenever you want. You have responsibilities and have to meet those. The CEO really doesn’t care about your co-ed girlfriend in CT…he wants you to your job. Granted, Logan’s father owns the company and all that, but you still have to work on gaining the respect of your co-workers. So no, I do not believe that he would have come to see her that soon after starting his job.
The conversation with ‘the guys’ at dinner was sort of stupid and staged…what business people do you know would ask an associate to reinact her walking away from the table? That’s juvenile and silly and I don’t any self-respecting woman who would actually do it…at least a woman who wants to be taken seriously by her business associates. And for Rory to be jealous, seriously….she needs to chill out and worry about her career and her business and let Logan do whatever it is he does….if he’s around when she’s done worrying about herself, then great, if not…so be it. She did the same thing with Dean, she went to Chilton and had her life…he didn’t want to wait for her, it was ok…hard to bear for a while, but she got over it. What’s different now? Oh yeah, Logan’s family is insanely rich…that’d keep me hanging on, probably! 

All in all it was a great episode last night. I especially liked how Lorelei, Chris and Rory were driving back to Stars Hollow and they were trying to find a decent radio station then all of the sudden you could tell when they hit Stars Hollow…they all grabbed their noses and distorted their faces! It was just silly and classic ‘Gilmore’ fare and you know how I like the classic stuff!

I’m sure that I left out something important from the episode, but those are the two points that I wanted to make about last night’s episode…sorry if I left anything out! It’s getting a little long as it is, I should be quiet now… ;-)

'Veronica' Wins Some, Loses Some

Well, that was shocking! For months now, we've been hearing that Gilmore Girls' Matt Czuchry was going to guest star on Veronica Mars as Logan's half brother. I never doubted it for a moment. It was all over TV Guide, the net and the press release. Boy, did VM pull the wool over my eyes! I love that this show can constantly surprise us when we least expect it. So, Czuchry wasn't Charlie Stone, and therefore, not Logan's half brother!! While I was watching him, I kept wondering if they were going to bring him back on occasion since he and Logan seemed to get along so well, and then it all became clear. Last week, Veronica's inability to trust people came back to bite her in the rear and this week, it spared Logan from a huge embarrassment. You win some; you lose some even in the world of teenage private detectives. Speaking of winning some and losing some, she cleared the fraternity, but pretty much pissed off every victim of the Hearst rapist, including Parker. These college rape cases get out of control very quickly. We've seen it happen on college campuses across America. When girls get raped, everyone wants to nail the person (people) responsible, so the most obvious party gets to carry all of the weight. Be it the Greek community, athletes, or someone else, the media and the school love to find the easy suspect, and whether they're truly guilty seems to get lost in the shuffle. The victims on VM want the justice that they deserve and it isn't happening soon enough. Meanwhile, more girls are falling victim and the school isn't doing enough to stop it. Blaming the seemingly guilty fraternity felt good, even if they aren't the responsible party. Poor Veronica had to bear the brunt of their understandable anger and frustration.

Elsewhere, Keith was feeling a little harmonious with new client Harmony. There was only one problem -- she's married and his extensive investigation found that her loveless marriage is also a faithful one. Her husband wasn't cheating on her, and therefore, she doesn't have the motivation that she needs to divorce him and finally move on with her life. As with Veronica, you win some and you lose some. How great was the Just Shoot Me reunion with Enrico Colantoni and Laura San Giacomo??!! I used to watch that show every week, and those two were always my favorites. Their former working relationship allowed for an instant connection between their VM characters that felt natural. It was good to have Elliot and Maya back together. Best scene of the night, though, is a tie between Dick showing up at Veronica's to ask for her help in clearing his fraternity ("We picked up the maid here once") and the Mars dinner scene. Veronica and Dick's hilarious banter had me cracking up. The dinner scene with Veronica, Logan and Keith had shades of the wonderfully hysterical Friday night dinners at the Gilmore residence on Gilmore Girls. Veronica was definitely channeling Lorelei. Loved it, loved it, loved it!! All of the screencaps in this edition are courtesy of vm-caps.com.

The 'Heroes' Begin to Plan

"Save the cheerleader. Save the world." It's cryptic for sure, but it makes more sense to us since we know who "the cheerleader" is and our heroes do not. The question is, from whom does Claire need saving? She's indestructible. I thought it may have been from her father, but I'm just not sure that he's that evil. He seems to want his daughter to be safe versus bring her harm. Plus, I don't think that he has any power over the heroes. Now, his mysterious friend is another story. We've seen him (Sylar?) render Matt's powers useless and erase the quarterback's memory, so I'm sure he could cause Claire to be powerless as well. The only problem -- he seems to be under the control of her father. And why is Claire the key to saving the world? Is it her power, her father or both? And while we're on the topic of questions, why did "Future Hiro" speak perfect English, but "Present Hiro" only speaks some? Perhaps, it has to do with what happens when all of the heroes come together to save the world. Out of all of the powers, Peter's is probably the most interesting. Being able to take on whatever power he is around came in very handy last night. He was able to finish Isaac's painting of the future to better decipher the "Save the cheerleader. Save the world" clue. And damn this show for always ending at the most crucial points. Hiro finally got through to Isaac, and talked to Peter who was at the studio and it was just in time for the two to discuss where they should meet (per "Future Hiro's" instructions on the subway train). Honestly, this show manages to get better and better every week with its intriguing story lines, central quest, awestruck moments (Nathan's flying) and shocking revelations. The 'Race' Gets an Attitude

A lot of good things happened last night on The Amazing Race. First and foremost, we're finally done with Peter!!! If he hadn't been eliminated last night, I was going to throw something at my TV. As obnoxious as he has been all race, last night was his worst performance. Between once again volunteering Sarah for a climbing challenge and relaxing on the ground as she powered through it to constantly acting like he was a big part of the team's success and getting mad at Sarah when they were lost in Kuwait, I had completely had it with Peter. This guy is one of the biggest arses to ever run the Race. The only reason that he and Sarah got as far as they did was because of Sarah. Had she run the race with a different partner, I have no doubt that she would have been one of the final 3 teams. Watching Peter get eliminated was fun enough, but then we got the extra bonus of learning that Sarah is not interested in dating him anymore!! She even dissed him by speaking to his (clearly flawed) character. Love it! Even though Sarah didn't walk away with the $1 million, she did get to see that Peter was a complete jerk. Other good things from last night:

*It's probably no secret that I love the "Back Packs" (Alabama, Kentucky and the Cho brothers), so I was so excited when all three crossed the finish line ahead of the model boys! How fabulous would a final 3 with these three teams be? Not that I think it will happen, but I can dream.

**The electronic camel races were awesome! I loved how Alabama cheered on their camel as he raced down the track. They even gave him a quick pep talk before he began. The best comment of all, though, was "Gotta stop with the attitude."

*The Cho brothers are the nicest team to ever run the Race. Not only did they scare off the beauty queens from going for the Fast Forward, but they allowed Kentucky to go for it. They risked their own chance at winning in order to ensure that Kentucky wasn't eliminated after being "Marked for Elimination" last week. Of course, karma is a strong force on The Amazing Race, so the Cho brothers found themselves a police escort that took them straight to the next location.

*I just want to thank the beauty queens for making me officially dislike them. I had been waffling between like and dislike, but last night's "sista" comment pushed me clearly into the Hate! column.

In the end, Peter and Sarah's hours and hours of driving around Kuwait City ended up being their downfall. Were you happy to see Peter eliminated? Did you feel bad for Sarah? Did you want to smack that smug look of off Peter's face all race? Leave me a comment with your thoughts. All of photos in this edition are courtesy of cbs.com.

Housewives Wasn't Very Nice Tonight

By Turtlemama
PTR Staff Writer

PhotobuImage courtesy of Desperate Housewives- THe Game
Episode 305; Nice She Ain’t

No, I don’t think there was a truly nice female in the most recent episode of ‘Housewives’. Edie is stealing Mike, Nora is trying to steal Tom, Gabby is trying her hardest to hurt Carlos as much as possible. Bree founded a plan to get Danielle’s History teacher to break-up with Danielle (it worked). Susan stole Mike from the hospital to try and get his memory back, ok she wasn’t exactly mean in this episode, but she was the only one! Julie wrote a crappy paper for Edie’s despicable nephew, but made him think she wrote a perfect paper…he got a D-. Even Lynnette said a little too much to Tom about his idea for opening a Pizza place.

I took notes while watching and will just post those, you can understand them, they are in paragraph form…let’s try a new way to discuss ‘Housewives’….next week; Bulleted lists! (KIDDING!)

Orson isn’t psycho, or is he? He’s being very calm and thoughtful and maybe even helpful. I can’t wait until the psycho comes back out…that will be an interesting story!
Danielle is such a DRAMA QUEEN! But hey, “NO rush, she isn’t trying too hard.” Man I laughed so hard!
Only Bree could say “Not in front of the therapist!” ha! That one made me giggle! heee! See, I'm still giggling!
Was Danielle a little ‘80’s’? Wow, that was classic Pat Benetar right there in the therapist’s office.
Bree is AWESOME! Moving her daughter in with the teacher Danielle is sleeping with! If telling him that the student he’s sleeping with is in love with him doesn’t work, THAT certainly will! Oh the ending to THAT story was classic…Teacher breaks up, but Danielle, being Bree’s daughter and all, takes the under-handed way of handling things…Like mother like daughter!

Tom’s Pizza Shack? Now THAT would make for great TV! I can see Lynnette and Tom trying to juggle kids, managing a business and having a life all at the same time now THAT would be interesting.
Ok, by a show of hands, who has been thinking that Nora is trying to break up Tom and Lynnette since episode 2 of this season? I’m telling you, she wants the life of Tom and Lynnette. It was nice to see a conversation between Tom and Nora…Nora mentions conversations, but we haven’t seen one yet without Lynnette in the room.

Carlos and Gabby are just hilarious….I had to think what the chick in the bathtub was thinking when Gabby walked in on her and then Carlos introduced her to his soon-to-be ex-wife. Then Gabby brings in Carlos’ arch enemy! Heee! I love some Gabby and Carlos disagreements. The scene with Gabby and the bed was great! You know, as much as those two are competing with one another, they’ll be back together very soon.

Mike really has a distaste for Susan, Edie is too good, too good at being a nasty, little [censored word that isn’t proper for a lady to publish on a public site]. I’m kind of sick of the whole ‘Susan Can’t Get a Man’ storyline…but I want to see Edie get hers, I hate it when people act like Edie and then good things happen to them….argh! Drives me batty!

Edie’s nephew is a scuzzbucket…and Julie is falling for him….she really doesn’t want to though, not that I can blame her (for not wanting to fall for him, he creeps me out).

Dead woman has Mike’s phone number on her? Ok, someone tell me their theory on that one, ‘cause I’m lost…but it explains Orson being connected to him. If you remember when they found the woman, Orson said in French “You are the first”…so he’s killed at least two women, and I bet Mike knows/knew about it.

Have you seen the new Desperate Housewives GAME!? Wow, they’ll sell anything they can brand won’t they?

'Cold Case' Heats Up

OK, so the headline isn't completely accurate. After all, this season of Cold Case has been en fuego since the opening moment of the premiere episode, but things just keep getting hotter. Not only are the cases extremely strong, but we also have a brilliantly executed personal story line for Lilly -- something that this show has always been missing. I watch each episode this season with pure delight because every detail is thought out and fulfilled. Meanwhile, I'm crossing my fingers that the trend continues. Lilly has gotten herself into quite the mess. She didn't play her cards right with Joseph, and now he's out of the picture and things aren't going so well with Ray either. The question is; does she want to be with Joseph, but her feelings for Ray are in the way? Or, does she want to be with Ray, but his lack of any sort of commitment in the past holds her back? Either way, she shouldn't be with Joseph right now.

It's not fair to choose the "consolation prize" (Joseph's words, not mine) because he's the one who isn't packing up and moving to California. In fairness to Lil, she did go to the hospital to say goodbye to Ray before she knew he was leaving town, but she was definitely not OK when she found out about his plans. I think that long walk she went on after was filled with a lot of internal justification. She probably told herself that Ray isn't stable, he's leaving again, and the feelings she has for him are based on their shared history. I'm sure she convinced herself that he wasn't worth throwing away a perfectly good relationship and guy over, so she went back to Joseph. One problem, Joseph had her number. He knew what was going on, and he didn't want to be the one that she settled for because the guy that she truly has feelings for is leaving once again. I can't blame Joseph, and yet, my heart broke for Lilly in that scene outside of PPD headquarters (thanks to Kathryn Morris' AMAZING performance!!). Why does she always get dumped while she's at work? First Kite, now Joseph, and both times were so heart wrenching. Although, I'm not sure "I don't want to be alone" are the right words to say as the person who feels like he's been playing second fiddle to the guy you grew up with, is walking away and out of your life. This is what seals the idea for me that Lilly was settling for the one who's there. Well that, and the ridiculously hot kiss she shared with Ray. Speaking of which, is this the behavior of someone who decides that she really wants to be with someone else? Yeah, Joseph made the right decision. It's too bad our poor Lil is the one alone again (I know it's her fault, but like a parent with a child, I can't blame my fave characters).

So, I spent a lot of the episode trying to figure out why the hell the autistic- child- witnessing- a- murder- and- then- recalling- numbers story line was so familiar. It drove me crazy. I could remember that the child in my mind was recalling latitude and longitude, but that was all. Then, it occurred to me that he had the latitude and longitude from a navigational system in his dad's car, and it all came flooding back. It was an episode of The Closer. Remember how Brenda was suppose to take the kid to child services so he could be with his mom, but she refused because she was afraid that the mom would cause him to forget the information that she needed to solve her case? So, she hid him in her office and Chief Pope kept getting really annoyed and she kept telling the mother that she would help her get custody. Anyway, this episode of Cold Case was very similar, but different enough that I was able to enjoy it as a separate entity. I like the way this show doesn't use the usual television anvils. We understand that Scotty has a natural inclination toward this child because his former fiancee suffered from a mental illness without the show telling us so. He decided to educate himself on autism because he didn't want to act like, well, Vera. I went back and forth over who killed the Harrises, but I thought that the end result was best. Doug had been under a lot of emotional stress because of his parents' separation and constant fighting, so realizing that the only people that he loved were about to leave him, could push him to desperate measures. I was surprised that he wasn't more affected by his act, though. Other than not being with Ruby anymore, life seemed to go on for him. I would have thought that he would have been a mess, but I guess that would have made things a little obvious. No show is perfect, but Cold Case is damn close this season. Of course, using Coldplay's "In My Place" as the ending song didn't hurt.
