One 'Model' Rises to the 'Top'

There was just no way that my favorite contestant would go on to become America's Next Top Model. After all, I had rooted for Danielle (Dani) from pretty early on last cycle, so I never imagined that lightning would strike twice. Thankfully it did, and CariDee is the newest Top Model winner!!! I was so worried when the judges narrowed the final three down to the final two and Melrose was still standing. And then she rocked that crazy runway show, so I was sure that her win was in the bag. Luckily, the judges felt that everything that Melrose knew came from studying and not through natural ability. CariDee was the natural with the bubbly personality and the beautiful pictures to match. Plus, she wasn't a raging beyotch! I'm still not sure why Melrose completely freaked out when CariDee accidentally stepped on and ripped her dress at the fashion show. She acted like CariDee did it on purpose, and she went so far as to say that she wanted to smack her! Hey Melrose, guess what -- crap happens! And when it does, you have to move on like it didn't. Throwing a diva fit isn't going to help anything. I was laughing at the end when she brought the waterworks back. I understand being disappointed that you didn't win, but she actually was pissed because she thought that she was better than CariDee. Melrose, you may have been the oldest girl in the competition, but you certainly weren't the most mature.

For the final time this cycle, let's reveal PTR's Top Photo of the Week!! All three of the girls had to shoot a CoverGirl commercial and print ad. All three did a pretty good job (except for Melrose's print ad), but one stuck out the most. This week's honor goes to..... EUGENA!! She finally pulled it together for the show's final shoot. Here's her winning photo.

'Top Model' is All Wet

I really thought that one or both of the twins would make it to the final 3. There was so much talk about their "high fashion" look and beautiful pictures that I wasn't sure how they could lose. Plus, they both had great personalities to match their model looks. But here we are a week before the final three battle it out for the title of America's Next Top Model, and neither twin is still standing. Of course, Melrose is still shining on, despite her fake facade with the judges. The girl does give it everything that she has and it always seems to work in her favor. The pool photo shoot turned out gorgeous, but I was shivering along with the girls! How cold must that pool have been for CariDee to get hypothermia??!! And WTH was up with the judges using that against her during panel?? They put her in the bottom two! I was so po'ed at the unfairness of it all. Luckily, she wasn't eliminated, so I got over it. CariDee rocked the dancing challenge while Melrose cried because she didn't win it. How ridiculous was that scene?! Crying because you didn't win a challenge and you're upset that you were judged on something that's your "passion" seemed overly dramatic. And Melrose calls CariDee the drama queen!

And now it's time for PTR's Top Photo of the Week! The girls had to pose in pairs floating in a freezing cold pool. The shoot was difficult, but it resulted in some great pictures. And the winner is... CARIDEE!! Here is her winning photo:

'Top Model' Gets Lost in Translation

Despite her obvious beauty, Jaeda had been holding on by a thread. She was never happy about her shorter hair, her photos were mediocre at best, and she gave up much too easily. Needless to say, she was the latest eliminated girl on America's Next Top Model last night. Actually, I'm surprised that she made it this far! I always feel bad for the girl who goes home right after they travel to the "exotic location." She's jet-lagged, adjusting to a new culture, excited about the new destination and then bam! She's on a plane back to the states! I felt especially bad for Jaeda because she had the male model from hell. He made it clear that he didn't like "black girls," and he wouldn't help her with her Spanish. Jaeda let it get in her head, and then she was unable to complete the commercial for Secret deodorant. Of course as a professional, Jaeda would have to overcome such obstacles and still turn out an excellent commercial. Elsewhere, I was shocked at how poorly CariDee performed in her commercial! I think the language threw her off, but like Jaeda, she would have to overcome it. She did rock the silent movie challenge, though!

It's time for PTR's Top Photo of the Week! Since the girls didn't have a photo shoot last night, we can't pick a photo. They did, however, have a commercial shoot, and the winner of that shoot was..... MELROSE!! Did she rock that commercial or what?? She interacted with all of the "extras" and she looked completely natural. As much as I dislike her for her conniving ways, she is a very fierce competitor and a force to be reckon with in this competition.

'Top Model' Gets Lost in Space

I really wasn't shocked when Anchal became the latest girl sent packing last night on America's Next Top Model. She's beautiful, but she just doesn't have what it takes to succeed in the modeling world. As the judges pointed out, she easily gave up on the challenges that they gave her, especially when she felt like it would take her out of her comfort zone. She is an interesting contrast to CariDee, who always moves outside her comfort zone and isn't afraid to be silly and make a fool of herself. Different strokes for different folks, but the former doesn't work well in an industry that is going to ask you to do all sorts of crazy things on shoots and the runway. And even though Michelle has a little trouble fully committing to it as well, she seems to come through in the photo shoots. Speaking of photo shoots; I'm not sure which one was more difficult (or fun!) last night. Trying to capture yourself on film while flying through the air to attack NASCAR driver Stanton Barrett couldn't have been easy. But, that simulated sky diving machine looked incredibly difficult as well. Despite the difficulties, there were a few girls who managed to get some nice pictures out of both shoots.

And now it's time for PTR's Top Photo of the Week. As I mentioned, both shoots were very difficult, but there were girls who were able to walk away with beautiful pictures. The best photo of the night, though, belongs to.... CARIDEE!! Here is her winning picture:

Thursday's News & Notes

So, I know that I haven't been around as much these past few days (there's been drama -- and not just the stuff on my TV), but I'm back up to speed now. And I know I suck because I didn't do a Top Model post today (again, the drama), so I'll just recap my thoughts in two sentences:

1) There's always a "Left Field" elimination. Last night's goodbye to Brooke is this season's. Did they kick her off on the night of her high school graduation on purpose? I mean her picture sort of bit it, but she had been pretty consistent up until that point.

2) Melrose must go! Even though her romance novel photo shoot is the recipient of PTR's Top Photo of the Week:

'Top Model' Shoots for the Stars

How fabulous was that Celebrity Couples shoot last night on America's Next Top Model?? I was so impressed at how close some of those girls looked to their respective celeb pairing. Plus, it had to be difficult to pull off both the female and male role in each couple. Meanwhile, Melrose seems to have the entire house against her thanks to her not-so-friendly ways. I knew that she would win the challenge because she's good at kissing arse and she thinks well on her feet. She and Janice should join up and form the sisterhood of the over-the-top models. In fairness to the other girls, Janice was her usual crazy self, so interviewing her was near impossible. Somehow, though, the simple task of moving the microphone between yourself and your interviewee seemed to be lost on so many. I always love the way the girls react when Tyra surprises them by just showing up. Her meeting with Amanda seemed to help the situation with her sister. She was obviously worried about how the world would react to Michelle's sexual confusion and possible bisexual orientation. In the end, AJ's sub par J.Lo/Marc Anthony photo and her lack of desire for the competition cost her the chance to become America's Next Top Model.

And now, it's time for PTR's Top Photo of the Week! As I mentioned above, this week each girl had to pose as both halves of a celeb couple. The winning photo goes to... CariDee (who also won last week's Top Photo award)!! She posed as both Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie, and on top of taking an amazing photo(s), she also carried herself exactly like her popular duo. Here's her winning photo:
And just to give some perspective on how well she did, here's how CariDee really looks:

'Top Model' Goes to the Circus

Things are beginning to get nasty on America's Next Top Model. Sure, the girls are rid of troublemaker Monique, but it seems that Melrose has decided to take over the antagonistic role in the house. She's doing hers in a more covert way, but did she really think that Anchel wouldn't hear the bitchy things that she had to say about her in the hot tub?? Of course she knew, she just didn't care. And when Anchel called Melrose out during their meeting with Tyra, Melrose didn't feel bad about what she said because it hurt Anchel. She felt bad about what she said because Tyra found out, and she didn't want Tyra thinking that she was a mean person. Umm, sort of just proved that you are, Melrose! Anyway, the circus freak shoot was fun, although, I did feel for Megg. The bearded lady assignment was definitely the toughest. Most of the girls were able to overcome their less-than-beautiful assignments and turn in a good picture (the point of the shoot), but if you don't feel beautiful, it's difficult to sell it. Poor Megg! The judges are really unforgiving this cycle. One mistake, and you're outta there!

And now it's time for PTR's Top Photo of the Week! As I mentioned above, this week's circus freak shoot was difficult for all of the girls because they had to overcome their freak assignments and turn in a good photo. Some were able to do it, and others were not. The best photo belongs to... the elephant appendaged CariDee! She was able to break through the elephant trunk and produce an interesting, artistic photo.

'Top Model' Calls in Sick

Fans of America's Next Top Model know that the potent combination of little sleep, a lot of stress, busy days and traveling can lead to a trip to the hospital. Witness last season's winner Danielle (who's now just "Dani" in her CoverGirl ads), who went from being hooked up to IVs to posing on the back of an elephant all in the span of a few short hours. And then there was this season's contestant Monique, who was down for the count and dehydrated before she finally made a trip to the local ER. The difference between Danielle and Monique is drive. Monique wasn't posing for her next photoshoot a few hours later, and it cost her the chance to win the competition. The judges felt that she didn't want it enough, and therefore, the only fair thing was to eliminate her over the emotionally- challenged Eugena. There were no tears shed for her departure, though. The other girls were happy to see the 19-year old troublemaker leave, and Monique herself didn't seem too broken up about her fate. In fact, her departing words to the camera were how the entire experience had been a waste of her time. Funny, because it seemed to be a waste of everyone else's as well. Too bad she took the spot of another girl who would have appreciated it more.

And now it's time for PTR's Top Photo of the Week! This episode was all about learning to walk the walk and sell the garment, so the fashion shoot reflected this theme. The girls had to walk a wobbly catwalk over a pool and pose at the end for their photos. Surprisingly, there were a lot of good shots, but the Top Photo goes to... AJ (who also won the catwalk challenge)!! Here's her photo:

Makeover Madness on 'Top Model'

I completely neglected America's Next Top Model last week because it got lost in my premiere week shuffle, but never fear, because PTR's coverage is back! Two episodes in, and we already have house fights, hated contestants, makeover drama and another eliminated contestant. Megan (left) got lost in that crazy "Hair Wars" shoot and it cost her a chance to become "America's Next Top Model." That shoot was wild, but a lot of the girls took beautiful photographs. Anchal's was absolutely stunning! The CoverGirl challenge was so difficult, and I was completely shocked at how well some of those girls were able to do with so little time and under such tremendous pressure. Monique is this season's Jade. I think she might be worse, though, because she's deliberately trying to make the other girls mad. I started clapping when Anchal walked into the phone room and hung up the phone after Monique had spent 3 hours on it. I don't know what would be more aggravating -- the fact that she occupied the one phone in the house for over 3 hours or that she enjoyed doing it so much. It's a toss up. Let's just hope that Monique doesn't hang on as long as Jade did last season.

This week's Top Model Photo of the Week goes to...

Anchal for her "Hair Wars" shot. For more on Top Model, visit cwtv.com.

Danielle Gets Ready for Her Close Up! Plus 'Idol,' 'Gilmore' Gets a Familiar Consultant and Bell Checks her 'Pulse'

Sometimes pursuing your dreams can be a lot harder than you expect. For Danielle Evans (right - photos courtesy UPN), who dreamed of being a "Supermodel" since she was 12 years old, the pursuit to become the newest America's Next Top Model was marred with dental surgery, a sprained toe, constant criticism about her southern accent and a stay in the hospital for dehydration and exhaustion (brought on by the long flight to Thailand). And all of that was just during the competition on America's Next Top Model. The 20-year old from Little Rock, Arkansas told bloggers last night during a teleconference that the last obstacle was definitely her hardest. "It was my first time ever in my life being in a hospital and I was in Thailand," she remembers. The next day, she was still feeling a little quesy as she posed on top of an elephant in one of her most highly praised photo shoots of the competition. "I have a really high tolerance for pain," she explains. And when she wasn't focusing on the pain, she was thinking about her mother who suffers from rheumatiod arthritis. "My mom goes to work everyday without complaining," she says. If the elephant shoot was her least favorite, then the shoot on the beach in Thailand was definitely her favorite. Danielle says that she would like to be a Sports Illustrated model in the future, so the shoot really appealed to her. Interestingly enough, what didn't appeal to Danielle was the idea of going on America's Next Top Model. She had seen the show before, but it took her brother convincing her to give it try in order for her to audition. "I was always that girl who was like, 'I want to model, but not reality show model'," she explains. And in the end, she feels that the way this reality show portrayed her was accurate. "They portrayed me in the light that I am," she concedes. Although, she says that she is extremely quiet, but not shy and she's also a "tremendous fighter" when the topic is something that she feels passionate about.

If a dehydration and exhaustion-induced hospital stay weren't enough, Danielle also underwent an elective dental procedure to close the gap between her two front teeth after the judges pressed her. She fought the procedure because she liked the space, but she now believes that it helped her. "I can't say it made my chances of winning any better, but it kept me in the competition longer," she explains. The judges also wanted Danielle to work on her southern accent because they believed that with it, she wouldn't be able to do her CoverGirl commercials. Danielle says that it was "hard to work on" because there was no dialect coach in the house. Even though she seemed to have a few obstacles in her way, the 20-year old says that she had a lot of fun on the show. She became close with most of the girls in the house, and she continues to keep in contact with a lot of them. "No one stepped on my toes," she explains. She and fellow contestant Mollie Sue even made up nicknames for each other. "Mollie named me 'Kitty' and I named her 'Petey'," she says with a laugh. The girls invented the names after their makeovers. Danielle got "Kitty" because she looked "soft like a cat" after hers, and Mollie Sue got "Petey" because her haircut resembled Peter Pan's. Danielle says that she got along with Jade as well. In the finale after Jade was eliminated, Danielle says that a moment transpired between them that viewers didn't get to see. "I hugged her goodbye and she whispered, 'Go win it'," she says. And win it is exactly what Danielle did after wowing the judges in her first runway show, but she says that her favorite moment of the entire competition came when the girls visited the tsunami ravaged area of Phuket. "We had a moment to distance ourselves from the competition. It was peaceful." Since the competition ended six months ago, Danielle has been home preparing for her soon-to-be hectic schedule by sleeping a lot. "I've been laying low, trying to act as normal as possible," she explains. That means spending time with her mother, with whom she's very close. "She's not interested in the whole celebrity thing. She's more happy that I'm able to live my dreams." Danielle's CoverGirl print ad is in magazines now. America's Next Top Model will return this fall on the new CW network.

The final performances are in the history book, so it all comes down to your votes. I thought that last night's performances from both Taylor and Katharine were pretty even. Unlike the judges, I thought that Katharine's repeat performance of K.T. Tunstall's "Black Horse and a Cherry Tree" was just as strong as the first time. For me, Katharine and Taylor tied the first round and split the second and third rounds. Katharine absolutely blew me away with her rendition of "Somewhere Over the Rainbow," even more so than last week, so she was the clear winner of round 2. The final round went to Taylor for, if nothing else, having a better song. Katharine's song had to be the most difficult thing ever! It was so low and so high and just all over the place. Taylor managed to infuse some of his winning personality into his song, but not until the last 1/4 of it, but he gets the edge for doing that much. I still think that Taylor will win tonight, but I'll be happy either way. And speaking of American Idol, my girl/last year's winner Carrie Underwood brought the house down last night at the Academy of Country Music Awards. She won two awards and delivered this amazing performance:

And since we're on the topic of the ACM awards last night, I snagged these pictures of presenter Kathryn Morris from Getty Images:

You can see more pictures of Kathryn at the event at Kathryn Morris Online HERE and HERE, and you can see tons of pictures from the event over at Yahoo! News.

QUICK CUTS

*The WB's Gilmore Girls is getting a new creative force, but she should be familiar to fans of the now cancelled Everwood. Rina Mimoun, who served as an executive producer on the family drama, is jumping onboard as a consultant with the mother/daughter dramedy according to TVGuide.com's Mike Ausiello. The news should come as a relief to Gilmore fans who are still reeling over the news that wife/husband creator/executive producer team Amy Sherman-Palladino and Daniel Palladino will not be a part of the show's upcoming 7th season after contract negotiations broke down. As Ausiello says, Mimoun "has an unparalleled aptitude for nuanced characterizations and — more importantly — satisfying story arcs." Maybe all hope is not lost in Stars Hollow after all.

*Yahoo! Movies has pictures and a trailer for Kristen Bell's upcoming thriller flick Pulse. The movie, about a girl (Veronica Mars' Bell) who starts receiving emails from her dead boyfriend and enlists the help of a hacker to discover that the dead may be using our electronic devices to enter our world, also stars Ian Somerhalder and Christina Milian. It hits theaters July 14th. Click over to Yahoo! Movies to see the trailer and more production stills from the movie.

*And finally, it's Nielsen Wednesday! CBS once again won the week in total viewers and Fox won it with the 18-49 year old crowd. The Eye was led by CSI (#3), Without a Trace (#7) and CSI: Miami (#9). American Idol (#1, #2), Desperate Housewives (#4), the Monday finale of Grey's Anatomy (#5), House (#6), Will & Grace (#8) and ER (#10) rounded out the top 10. Danielle Rises to the 'Top'! Plus the 'Idol' Moment and More From the Upfronts

Happy dance! Happy dance! Happy dance!! Danielle (right - photos courtesy UPN) is this cycle's America's Next Top Model! I was so sure that her accent was going to dog her, and I would have been so pissed because it can be fixed with a dialect coach. I swear, the judges kept harping on her accent to throw us off on the fact that they loved Danielle. I've said this before, but I just didn't see the big deal with the way that she speaks since it was something that could be rectified. Everything else about Danielle screamed model. She has the looks, the walk, the attitude, the pictures and everything else that just comes naturally. These are things that many of the other girls were lacking. I loved Joanie, but she is not quite at the same level as Danielle. She takes beautiful, chameleon- like pictures, but in person, Danielle is a better fit.
I was impressed with both girls' appearances in that incredible Thai fashion show, but Danielle was stronger. She looked like a professional model when she was up there strutting her stuff.

That CoverGirl commercial shoot was hilarious. I don't know what Jade has against learning her lines, but she was terrible. Even with the cue cards she still messed up the lines! How do you mess up the lines when you're reading them on a cue card??!! It boggles the mind. Joanie was like a two-take wonder. She is so good at taking what they tell her and using it to her advantage. Jay told her she was a caricature of herself in the first take and to try to be more natural the second time. Done! Danielle got up there, and she messed up her lines, but at least she had the excuse that she was focusing so hard on her accent that she couldn't think about anything else. The pictures from the shoot all turned out well, but Danielle's just floored me. It was so elegant, beautiful and regal and it looked exactly like a CoverGirl ad. Panel was a little nerve-wracking, but Jade's departing comments made me laugh. I love how her only regrets were about how the judges made a mistake and how they didn't understand her. Man, this girl needs to get a clue. Nobody wants to work with someone who thinks they know everything already and refuses to take advice. Jade showed no signs of amending her attitude, so eliminating her was the right decision. I was jumping for joy! To be truthful, I would have been happy with either Danielle or Joanie, but I was very excited to see Danielle win. I'm going to miss these girls when the next cycle rolls around, but not Jade of course. I will be talking to Danielle next week, so if you have any questions for her, leave me a comment and I'll try to get them answered.

The judges loved everything about Danielle (except her accent), but they seemed to be most enthralled by her beautiful photographs. Here's a montage of all of her photo shoots in order from top left through bottom right (except her CoverGirl photo which you can see above). You can click on the image to enlarge it.

The Idol Moment
No big surprise here. Elliot, although very talented, was the weakest of the three remaining contestants the other night. Ever since Chris got knocked off early, I figured Katharine and Taylor would duke it out for the top spot. If I'm being honest, Katharine is the better pick because she'll mold herself right into the Idol image, but Taylor is slightly better. He doesn't over sing, and he seems to have a lot of fun performing. Plus, Taylor would benefit more from going out on his own because he has his own unique style. Katharine is in the same tradition of Kelly Clarkson, so I can see her having a successful Idol career. So, the question is, do you vote for the most talented or the one who would benefit the most from the win? I love them both and find the decision too difficult, so I don't think I'll be voting next week. I'll be happy no matter which way this one turns out. As long as Taylor doesn't get stuck singing pseudo-soul (ala last year's runner-up Bo Bice and his pseudo-rock), I'm good.

About Last Night...NBC won the first hour of the night with Deal or No Deal, followed by Fox's Bones and the first hour of CBS' The Amazing Race. At 9, Fox took over with an hour-long Idol results show, followed by ABC's Lost and NBC's Dateline (the second hour of CBS' Race landed in fourth). The final hour of the night went to NBC's Law & Order, followed by CBS' CSI: NY and ABC's Invasion. For more on last night's ratings, visit Zap2it.

QUICK CUTS

*UPFRONTS UPDATE: The CW officially announced its schedule (as opposed to the one from Mike Ausiello that I posted earlier) and it's identical to the earlier version, except for Sunday nights. Sundays will lead off with Everybody Hates Chris at 7 p.m. as opposed to 8 p.m., and it will be followed by All of Us, Girlfriends and new show The Game. At 9, a Top Model encore will air. I corrected the earlier version, which you can see HERE along with the new network's logo. Notice that all of us Veronica Mars/Gilmore Girls fans got the dream pairing that we wanted. According to the CW's press release, "Tuesday nights are all about girl power." Sara Breaks Out from her Mall Image! Plus 'Trace,' 'CSI' and 'Deadwood' Dead?

Sara (left - photo courtesy UPN) made it all the way to the final four on America's Next Top Model. Not bad for a girl who had no prior modeling experience and who producers found in a mall. "That's a funny story," the Georgetown graduate told bloggers last night during a teleconference. "I was shopping in Macy's and this woman came up to me and asked if I was lost." Apparently, that woman was from America's Next Top Model and she thought that Sara was at the mall to audition for the 6th cycle, but Sara didn't even know that the auditions were going on. Her mall discovery became a stigma that seemed to follow her throughout the competition. Other contestants questioned her commitment since she was discovered and had no prior experience. "I feel like it was something that was held against me from the very beginning," she explains. She seemed to get the most criticism from fellow contestant Joanie, but Sara takes it in stride. "People say things that they don't mean in stressful situations," she concedes. She says that she and Joanie have become close since their Top Model experience. "She knows I take it seriously now." For someone who didn't have the experience that some of the others had, she has plenty to fill her resume now. One of her first experiences was that hair-raising makeover. "The hair cut was definitely a shock to my system," she admits, but then concedes that she has gotten used to it and now keeps her hair short, for the time being anyway. One of her favorite experiences was Thailand. "Thailand was the most incredible experience," she gushes. " I got to do so many things there. Even if I traveled there I wouldn't get to do all that." One of those things was posing for a photo shoot on top of an elephant. " It was just such an amazing experience," she recalls. She even managed to pick up a few Thai phrases and customs. "A lot of what they do is things that we all should do like respect each other," she explains. "I always wanted to be cognizant of what I was doing. I didn't want to offend anyone."

In addition to the elephant shoot, Sara says that she also liked the first shoot where the girls had to go bald. "It was an interesting situation," she says. It was also one where she received a lot of praise, but Sara says that she never minded the criticism either, especially when it came from Tyra. "I always felt that what Tyra said was not mean spirited, but constructive," she explains. "Anything she said came from a good place." Sara counts the falling fairytale shoot and the ice shoot as her least favorites. She says that she actually sprained her neck during the falling shoot, and she describes it as "very painful." And if difficult photo shoots and the competition weren't hard enough, there was also fellow contestant Jade. When asked about the the contestant that viewers love to hate, Sara laughs and says that everyone asks her about Jade. "She has such a big personality and unflappable confidence," she explains. Sara says that she actually admires Jade for those two qualities and she admits that she doesn't know her outside of the competition. So, what's next for the girl who was discovered in the mall? She says that she would like to pursue modeling and "see how far my potential will take me." She says that watching herself on Top Model has been very constructive. "I finally see what they were saying," she explains. "I think the stiff shoulders have made their final exit." America's Next Top Model will air its 2-hour season finale this Wednesday, May 17th on UPN.

Without a Trace gave us a very interesting social commentary last night. Do missing white girls get more media attention than their African- American counterparts? I've seen this question explored in the media before, and according to studies, they do. You don't have to conduct a study to know the answer, although, I do enjoy the irony of a media outlet doing a social commentary about their own coverage. Instead of wasting the time on these commentaries, why don't they just start covering missing children equally? It's frustrating in real life, but it was even more so on Without a Trace last night because we got to experience the inequality through the eyes of the mother of one of the missing persons. I just wanted to reach through my television and rip off the reporter's head. Is it that difficult to cover another missing teen or at the very least, put his picture on the air? As we saw last night, it's difficult to get tips when no one knows that the child is missing. I found myself siding 100% with Viv. Every time they pulled another FBI agent off of her case, I got more and more frustrated. This episode was really a stand-out hour of television and a stellar effort by everyone involved, especially guest star Viola Davis (Audrey, Darnell's mom). For the first time, there was no payoff in this episode. We invested our emotions into both of these kids' stories and we never learn the outcome other than Sam saying, "One alive, one dead," a body confirmation and Jack walking over to both mothers. I'm sure the point was that both kids' lives were of equal value, and therefore both equally worthy of the media coverage only afforded to Emily, so it's tragic simply to lose one of them. Normally, this lack of closure would have bothered me (and to be honest, it did last night), but in this case I think the point was made perfectly. If you were wondering about the ending song from this episode, it was James Blunt's "Cry" off of his Back to Bedlam album. It was brilliantly perfect for the scene and helped set the tragic mood, and yes, it's going on my iPod. As usual, you can get the track from iTunes.

Last night's CSI was only the first part in this year's 2-part finale, but it definitely set up some interesting situations for next week. First, what will happen to Brass? Second, is Warrick's marriage kaput? If you read TV Guide regularly, then you definitely know the answer the latter and you may know the answer to the former as well. I'm not going to say anything about the outcome of either storyline here, so proceed without worry. Remember how CBS told us that we could figure out the finale by looking at this picture? Well, from what we've seen so far, it seems that the clues were, in fact, there and the entire stunt was actually a pretty cool (and dare I say hip?) marketing tool on CBS' part. If you look at the gentleman hunched over with the bullet wound in his back, you'll notice that there's a police badge in his pocket, so clearly this was meant to foreshadow Brass' shooting. You can also use the magnifying glass to look at Warrick's left hand, and you'll notice that he's not wearing his wedding ring like he usually does, so we have the marital trouble hinted at here. You can also spot the slot machines, indicating the casino where the hostage situation went down, and then there's the most interesting discovery of all. If you use the magnifying glass and mouse over Gil and Sara, you'll notice that their heads change position to look at each other. If you mouse over everyone else's heads, they don't move. Is this a subtle hint to a possible relationship between the two next week? Maybe, but I for one am choosing to believe that it's nothing more than a cool graphic effect (Hey, denial ain't just a river in Egypt!).

Locke was Once 'Lost,' but Now is Found! Plus an 'Idol' Shocker, 'Model' and a Possible 'Invasion' at the CW

Mr. Eko + Locke the Believer + lots of hatch mythology = me back as a big fan of Lost. That's right, I'm back! I know I was hard on Lost last week for the out of left field shootings in the hatch, and just to be clear, I'm still not a fan of that turn of events, but this episode restored my faith in the show like it restored Locke's faith in the island's mythology. In fact, Locke and I have a lot in common. We both fully believed in something than turned out to be nothing more than smoke and mirrors (or shocking shootings simply intended to shock), or so we thought. Locke learned through Mr. Eko that there's more to the island than what it seems on the surface, and I discovered that the show can still tell engaging, complicated stories. So, it was win-win for both of us.

The miracle that Eko investigated in his flashbacks seemed to have more under the surface as well. Was the girl actually dead and then came back to life or did her body simply shut down to protect itself from hypothermia like her father suggested? Maybe a combination of both. Eko ran into the girl at the airport, which is certainly not a coincidence, and she had a message from his dead brother saying that he was doing good work even if he wasn't a real priest. It seems that whether the girl was a living miracle or not is not important because her real mission was to meet Eko and deliver that message from his brother. But we know from Eko and Locke that you don't have to die to get a visit from Eko's brother as both of them saw him in their dreams. Eko's was the most interesting. In it, his brother told him that the work on the island is very important and to help Locke find his way back to believing in the island. So, it seems that Locke is the key, and like you, I'm sure that's more than just a mere play on words. We were also treated to another orientation film. This one was on tape and yet, some of it was a bit messed up. I did manage to ascertain something from the jumbled ending. The film messed up when the instructor was explaining what to do when the team members finished their shifts, but after a few rewinds on the TiVo, it sounded something like this:

"Take a ferry back to the barracks to prepare for your next rotation"

Interesting that there's a ferry, and where exactly are these barracks? Is there another island close by where the "researchers" are gathered? Is that where Locke sent his map? I know one thing; I wouldn't have sent anything up the bank drive-up tube. The new hatch (Pearl) is apparently the most important since it serves as the monitoring center for the other stations. This meant that we got to see Jack at the hatch on security camera, so have the Others or anyone else been watching what's happening in the hatch? If so, did Henry Gale know this and then act accordingly? And most importantly, wouldn't you love to get your hands on those log books that the observers send through the bank drive-up tube? I'm so back in the thick of all of this again! Of course, there were other happenings on the island, most notably Libby's not-so-surprising death. Since I saw this one coming since we learned about Cynthia Watros' new show, I wasn't shocked or saddened. I did, however, feel bad for Hurley. Oh, and Michael was so close to getting caught. I almost screamed when Libby's cry of "Michael" was misinterpreted. TVGuide.com's Mike Ausiello has once again come through with a HUGE scoop and scored an interview with executive producers Damon Lindelof and Carlton Cuse on Libby's death (Is Ausiello on a roll or what? He was the first to talk to both of them last week after Ana Lucia's shocking death, he was the first to talk to Veronica Mars' Rob Thomas about the shocking finale, and now this!). The producers told him that Libby's death was a mere creative decision. "We felt like we had run out of story for her," Cuse explained to the magazine's online site. "On the other side, we thought, well, shooting Ana Lucia is going to be dramatic, but what will really make it incredible for the audience is that it'll be completely surprising if we shoot Libby, too." Libby's death came about before we fully learned her back story, but Lindelof promises that we will get a lot more about Libby through flashbacks next season. "We know she's spent some time in the mental institution with Hurley, and the idea of killing her before she had an opportunity to explain how she got there... we have a master plan for how we're going to tell that story, but it's all posthumous," he says. They also say that we can expect to see Libby again before the season ends. To read Ausiello's full interview with Lindelof and Cuse, click on over to TVGuide.com. And if you missed last night's Lost episode, you can click over to abc.com to watch it for free.

The Idol Moment
I'm still shocked about last night's elimination on American Idol. Chris??? Chris, people??? Really???? I thought the guy had like a gazillion fan girls voting for him over and over again and the backing of just about everyone! I like Taylor and Katharine, but either of them would have been better ouster picks than Chris. The only silver lining in all of this is the fact that Chris now has the ability to make the type of album that he wants without having to conform to the AI standards. I'm hoping he releases a rock album that includes his super awesome rendition of Johnny Cash's "I Walk the Line." That's still my favorite performance out of all of the contestants this season. It was just that off the hook. So, who do you think is going to the final two? It's hard to say when things like this happen, but I'm thinking it will probably be Katharine and Taylor. Elliot has a lot of support, but the other two seem to have even more. I would say that it will hinge on Tuesday's performances, but if that were the case then you'd be looking at Katharine's picture right now instead of Chris'.

The Model Moment
Sara (left - photo courtesy UPN) was probably the weakest of the remaining girls, so her ouster wasn't a surprise to me. I was, however, holding my breath because I thought Danielle was going and then I was going to be mad. I get what Tyra's saying about Danielle's accent not working in a CoverGirl commercial, but what I don't get is what she expects her to do about it. Have you ever tried to lose an accent? It's not easy. Why doesn't Tyra get Danielle a dialect coach if it's that big of a deal? To me, Danielle is the best choice to win this thing, so I'm going to be really mad if her accent is what keeps her from doing so since it's something that could easily be fixed with a dialect coach. Anyway, Jade still grates, but what else is new? Joanie is still my second favorite, and I was impressed with the way she took Tyra's criticism about her appearance at panel and fixed it. Attitude wise, she's got the best to win the competition because she's 100% willing to take criticism and use it to better herself. Unlike Jade, she doesn't think that she knows it all already (I don't care what Jade says, she totally thinks that she knows better than the professionals). I'm keeping my fingers crossed that Joanie and Danielle are the final two, but I have a feeling it's going to be Jade and Joanie.

*The new CW network might be preparing for an Invasion. According to The Hollywood Reporter, sources are saying that the new network might pick up the sci-fi drama if ABC decides not to renew it. So far, neither network is commenting on Invasion or its future. ABC will announce its fall schedule next Tuesday and the CW will announce its first fall schedule next Thursday.

*And finally, Cold Case's Kathryn Morris is spilling about the upcoming third season finale of her hit CBS show to TV Guide. Lilly Rush enthralled with the victim in the squad's latest unsolved case, so much so, that she makes some poor decisions that compromise the case. "Lilly does some things that are not so professional because her heart is so overtaken. She doesn't want to be alone anymore," she explains to TV Guide. The season finale of Cold Case airs May 21st on CBS. And I'll bring you Morris' entire Q&A with TV Guide next week in a special finale preview.

Furonda Marches to the Beat of Her Own Drum! Plus 'CSI,' 'Trace' and CBS' Summer Offerings

If America's Next Top Model were a personality contest, Furonda (left - photo courtesy UPN) would have won for having the most. The 24 - year old from Stuttgart, Arkansas, who the judges said "beat to the tune of her own drum," was always bringing her own special dose of fun to the challenges and photo shoots. When one of those challenges relied on personality, Furonda was the easy winner. It garnered her a speaking guest role on UPN's Veronica Mars, an experience that she calls a "great time." "Everybody was extremely nice to me," she recalled during a teleconference with bloggers last night. "They helped me through it. Gave me tips." She says that she was especially impressed with Steve Guttenberg, who plays Neptune's mayor who may or may not have been involved in this season's central bus crash mystery, because she has grown up watching his comedy. All of that personality also led to an interesting moment during Top Model's early episodes. Furonda passed out a memo of her rules to the other girls in the house, but she says there was more to the list than what the audience heard on the show, but it was basically about showing respect toward each other. She says that she had experienced the situation before when she lived in the dorms at college, so she came prepared. "I thought that was necessary because I was moving into a house with thirteen other girls and I have a unique personality," she explains.

Furonda says that she has been a fan of America's Next Top Model since season one. She tried out for season two, but didn't get called back until this season. She says that she had the most fun with the living doll shoot because she got to be a rag doll. "It was kind of sweet revenge because the week before, Jay gave me a bad critique and said I was like a rag doll," she says laughing. Her least favorite shoot was the falling fairy tale one because she says it was dangerous. "A lot of girls got injured. Sara had to go to the chiropractor," she recalls. Since her experience on Top Model, Furonda has been working on her modeling career, but she says she would also like to act, especially in comedies like Saturday Night Live. She is also working on launching a singing career, and she'll soon have some singles uploaded on her official web site. But the work that is nearest and dearest to her is with the campaign Know HIV/AIDS, which she got involved with after winning a challenge on Top Model. She feels that speaking to young people with AIDS is very important. "Just let AIDS survivors know that they are beautiful just for fighting the horrible disease they have," she says sincerely. She'll soon be moving to New York, and it's very possible that she'll room with fellow Top Model contestant Nnenna. "Nnenna is kind of like my support system right now," she explains. With her work with Know HIV/AIDS and her future goals in modeling and acting, it seems that Furonda will be busy, but that's all right with her. "I want it all," she says with a laugh. "Next is everything." You can learn more about Furonda from her official site. You can get more information on Know HIV/AIDS here. America's Next Top Model airs Wednesday nights on UPN.

Was CSI living in a fantasy world last night or what? Literally! So, one thing that never fails to intrigue me on this show is the alternative lifestyles and such that it loves to portray. This show feeds on the absurd. Can you imagine the amount of money that the victim's fantasy must have cost? Two banged up vehicles, lots of spare gambling money, a number of participants and what I can only imagine is a huge service fee levied by the fantasy creating company. It's amazing what a lot of money will buy you! In other CSI news, did you guys notice the many bones that the show was throwing all of those who want Sara and Grissom to hook up? For the record, I'm not one of them. I find the whole thing tremendously out of character for Grissom. I see him more as a father figure to Sara, much in the same way that I see Lilly and Stillman's relationship on Cold Case. Thus, the mere thought of them hooking up sends several waves of uncomfortable down my spine. From the looks they shot each other in this episode, it seems that the worst is yet to come on that front. Anyway, who's up for free episodes of CSI?? Everyone? Well, then CBS is your new best friend. The net's official site is now showing the producers' two favorite episodes (including the incredible "Gum Drops"). You can click on over there to watch them anytime. Don't forget to study this picture for clues to next week's 2-part finale. Where's Brass? Might that be a clue...

Thank you for giving us an excellent, compelling and well written episode last night Without a Trace! You have been living in mediocre land for way too long, but when you're good, you're one of TV's best. I was so sure that the brother and sister had banded together, killed their father and gone on the run, but I was SO happy when that wasn't the case. It just goes to show that you can't just rely on how things seemed to be. Of course, the family had problems. They lost their wife/mother, dad lost his job, the little boy was having trouble in school and the daughter was in with the wrong boyfriend, but when it came down to it, they were still a family. The fact that they were on the run together and back to being a family again kind of warmed my heart a bit. I know that sleazy boyfriend was in fear for his life, but I still hate him for calling the daughter just so he could give the family's location to the Albanians. Why not lie and say that she never called back when he paged her? That would have made sense because the family was in hiding. See, this why I hated sleazy boyfriend. I admire the family for agreeing to testify against the Albanians in return for witness protection because they're going to spend the rest of their lives looking over their shoulders. Of course, Jack has their back and the gun that will put a hole in the leader's head if he touches the family. I love when Jack gets tough!

QUICK CUTS

*CBS is planning a busy summer schedule according to its latest press release. Look for the return of Rock Star and an all-star edition of Big Brother in July. Also, look for newcomers Game Show Marathon and Tuesday Night Book Club. Marathon, an adaptation of a popular show in the U.K, finds celebrities facing off in different classic game shows (such as The Price is Right and Match Game). Ricki Lake will host the series that begins May 31st. It will run twice a week until the middle of June when it will move to its Thursday night slot. Book Club, an unscripted series that follows the interesting conversations that take place when a group of women meet for a book club, will premiere June 13th and air Tuesday nights at 10 p.m.

*And finally, Matthew Perry is returning to NBC's primetime line-up this fall. The Peacock announced Thursday that it is picking up Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip, in which Perry stars along side his Whole Nine Yards co-star Amanda Peet as well as Bradley Whitford (The West Wing), D. L Hughley and Steven Webber. West Wing creators Aaron Sorkin and Thomas Schlamme created the hour-long drama that follows the backstage happenings on a sketch comedy show. We'll find out what else makes NBC's fall line-up during the network's schedule announcement on May 15th.
