'Dexter' Nabs Smits

As if Dexter needed to get any better ...

The immensely talented Jimmy Smits is set to join the cast of Showtime's Dexter for the upcoming third season as a charismatic assistant district attorney who comes from one of Miami's most politically powerful and beloved families. He will be featured in 10 of the 12 episodes on tap for season three.

We remember that Smits most recently starred in the blink-and-you-might-have-missed-it CBS drama, Cane, but I confess I will always remember him as the beloved Detective Bobby Simone on NYPD Blue.
