Spy On

Now that's what I call an entrance!!  If you're going to be off the air for far too many months, then coming back the way Chuck did this week might be enough to overcome the hole left barren in my TV schedule this past fall.  Three brand-spankin'-new episodes in the course of two back-to-back nights??!!  Three AWESOME spy-tastic cases??!!  Three hours of angst between Sarah and Chuck??!!  Yeah, it really doesn't get much better than this for a fan of the NBC spy thriller/comedy/love story/too- awesome- for- just- one- night series.  The only problem now, I'm totally spoiled.  I have to wait an entire week for more Chuck and then, I only get one episode.  But let's not dwell on next week because there is far too much to discuss from this week's triple play.  On the Chuck and Sarah front, things took a windy path through some ups and downs, but they ended in a pretty familiar place.

Let's see, they started off at odds (being turned down on a train platform in Prague with your bags packed and your new identity in hand tends to cause a little friction).  Chuck was sans Sarah, a job or the CIA (he washed out during training) and had taken up residence on his sister's couch.  Sarah was a teensy bit bitter and avoiding Chuck like the plague.  But we knew these crazy kids couldn't stay apart for long and sure enough, they were back together in no time -- in the field working missions for the CIA.  They had to keep their cover as boyfriend/girlfriend for their first big mission together and Chuck had to try to keep his emotions out of it.  Easier said than done.  But, they managed to steal the weapon and save Carina, so all's well that ends well.  Things got a bit more complicated for Sarah, though, when she saw the security camera footage of Chuck explaining why he turned her down on that train platform.  He made a strong case and Sarah seemed to understand.  So, back to being a happy couple, right?  Not so much.  Sarah may have forgiven, but she hasn't forgotten.  For now, the two agreed to be friends.  Hey, considering where we started this week, I'll take it!

Of the three episodes this week, the story line with the most awesome was Monday's "Captain Awesome plays spy doctor" outing.  I love Devon and Ellie, so I was already loving the fact that they were all over this one, but having Awesome play spy was just the best!  He was so excited until he mucked things up a bit.  But then he got the opportunity to fix it and he did!  He saved the communist dictator's life three times!  I know that sounds like a bad thing, but trust me, it was actually good because if he hadn't, Chuck and Sarah would have been toast.  After all of this awesome, you can imagine how devastated I was when Sarah knocked on Chuck's door at the end to deliver some bad news about Devon.  I really thought they killed Captain Awesome and I was so not happy about it.  I can't believe I'm going to say this, but thank goodness for the preview because it showed Devon -- very much alive AND living to spy another day!  I love it!  Add in Chuck's Intersect 2.0 complete with the ability to face any challenge (including weaving through a laser-triggered alarm system, playing guitar, setting the dance floor on fire and removing a bullet from Casey's leg), and things are shaping up to be one fan-freakin-tastic season!  Welcome back, Chuck!

Chuck is back Monday nights on NBC.  If you missed this week's episodes, you can watch them for free at Hulu.com.
