I promised myself and the TV gods that I would swear off the Emmys forever if TV's best show, Friday Night Lights, didn't receive nominations for Best Drama and Best Actor and Actress. Well it's Thursday, nominations are out, and guess what?? The Academy didn't nominate the show in any of the aforementioned categories, so I am officially done with these awards. As TV Guide's Matt Roush pointed out months ago, this year's nominations would serve as the litmus test for their future importance. Lights won a Peabody - considered the Pulitzer of broadcast - and yet, didn't receive nominations in any of the biggest categories. How can that be??? How can Kyle Chandler (who's turning out the best work in television) not get an acting nom? Or Connie Britton?? It blows my mind. Anyway, now that the awards have been exposed for the sham that they are, I can move on and not dwell on all of the deserving actors, actresses and shows that never get a nod. I agree that the Emmys are a complete sham!! Even though I don't watch FNL I know it deserved emmy nominations. Two and a Half Men over Scrubs is just absurd!! Charlie Sheen over Zach Braff is even more absurd! And how about Jon Cryer for supporting actor. He's every bit as much the star of that show as Charlie sheen! I guess you can tell I'm pissed off too!!
I totally agree as well. While I'm happy that Mariska got the nom, it wasn't exactly SVU's BEST season, and I would have much rather seen someone like Katee Sackhoff from Battlestar Galactica get nominated.
And speaking of BSG, they should have made the "Best Drama" catagory as well. They also recieved a Peobody, and BSG is unquestionably better than Boston Legal (which has always been a comedy, IMO).
I'm so upset that KM didn't get anything this year for her wondeful work on CC. It's so frustrating that she never gets anything, yet she is an great actess.
