
Television personality and conservationist Steve Irwin
is dead after an accident with a stingray while filming his latest documentary. Irwin, known to millions as
The Crocodile Hunter, was filming off of Australia's Great Barrier Reef when a poisonous stingray barb punctured his chest. His crew performed CPR on Irwin as they rushed him back to shore where an emergency helicopter was waiting. Medical staff pronounced him dead when they arrived. The Australian native was working on his latest documentary
Ocean's Deadliest when the accident occurred. Irwin was 44 years old and is survived by his wife and two children Bindi Sue, 8 and Bob, who will turn 3 in December.
