Is it wrong that I spent a good deal of last night's season finale of The Closer worrying about that damn cat? I could totally relate to the entire incident. Luckily, I trained Mr. TVFan to keep doors closed at all times very early on, but needless to say, I felt Brenda's pain. Anyway, I sort of had a feeling that the husband was some how responsible for his wife's and the FBI agent's deaths when Brenda first interviewed him, but I dismissed it after more evidence came forward. By the time the truth came out, I was thoroughly confused. Of course, this is typical for me with this show. I'm going along fine, understanding everything that's going on and then Brenda has some sort of break through and I'm completely lost until she finishes her final interviews. And that's the point, and the show does it very well. By the time the truth came out I was thoroughly convinced that the husband had nothing to do with it, so I was very surprised to learn what really went down that night. Once a mob man, always a mob man, I suppose. In the final moments at the police station, I had a feeling Mr. (Ex)-Mob was going to start shooting, but I had forgotten that Provenza had stored his gun in the Crown bag in his desk drawer. With so many shows killing off cast members unexpectedly lately, I was worried that Provenza, Sanchez or someone else was going to be toast. Luckily, everyone escaped with their lives. Everyone, that is, except Mr. (Ex)-Mob and his FBI sidekick. So, another season of The Closer has come to an end just as quickly as it began (until we get a few episodes in December). I was surprised that we didn't get anything further between Brenda and Pope before the season ended. The way she seemed to feel remorseful for throwing out the mementos from their relationship gave me the impression that that chapter wasn't completely closed for her. Perhaps, that's what the writers want -- an interesting chapter that could be reopened at anytime. I'll reiterate my thoughts from last week -- Poor Fritz!'Vanished' Picks Up the Pace
I know I gave Vanished a glowing review a few weeks ago after watching an advanced copy of its pilot and I know that you were probably scratching your head about it while you were watching the second episode last week, but after last night, you're back with me, right? I'll admit I was less than impressed with the show's second hour. I thought it dragged and it brought the show down a few notches (except for the former mayor's suicide, which shocked my socks off!). BUT, that money drop scene last night brought me right back. OK, so the secret group thinks that the senator knows about them and what they want and the former mayor said right before he put the gun to his own head that the senator knew about the group, but the senator seems to have missed the memo. And what is this group that seems to be attached to men in powerful political positions? Meanwhile, our thorough reporter is hot on the trail of who Sara/Nicky really is, and why she had the name change. Here's what I think -- I think this Sara/Nicky story is a red herring. It has nothing to do with her disappearance. Her disappearance has everything to do with the senator and his possible involvement with this secret group. And while we're on the topic of theories, I have one about the show's setting. Why set it in Atlanta? So far, there hasn't been any specific reason, except to set a show in a different city for a change, and using it presents filming complications that wouldn't have existed had the show chosen L.A. Perhaps, the show is set in Atlanta because the city itself is some sort of clue about this secret group and their scheming. After all, we haven't heard about any other kidnappings, except for the former mayor of Atlanta's wife. Hmm, something smells peachy.Premiering Tonight!!!
House - The medical drama kicks off its third season (Fox, 8 p.m.) with House back at work and taking on two cases at once.Standoff - Two hostage negotiators share a professional and personal relationship in this new drama (Fox 9 p.m.). Ron Livingston and Rosemarie Dewitt star.
Nip/Tuck - The controversial cable drama launches its fourth season (10 p.m. FX).
myNETWORKtv - This brand new network, born out of the WB/UPN merger that left many local channels without a network affiliation, launches tonight with its first two telanovela-style nighttime dramas: Desire (8 p.m.) and Fashion House (9 p.m.). Desire follows the story of two brothers who fall and fight for the same girl. Fashion House stars Bo Derek and Morgan Fairchild as rivals in the high-stakes fashion industry. QUICK CUTS
*Fox is making sure Vanished doesn't disappear anytime soon. The network, encouraged by the show’s increased ratings during its second episode last week, ordered three more scripts of the serialized thriller. It’s not a full season order, but the news does bode well for the freshman series. Vanished airs Monday nights on Fox.
*And finally, Animal Planet will air a tribute to its popular personality Steve Irwin. The Crocodile Hunter died suddenly early Monday morning when a stingray’s barb punctured his chest while filming a documentary off of Australia’s Great Barrier Reef. The cable channel will air a special tribute to the conservationist next week as well as a marathon at a later date of Irwin's work over his 200 + appearances on Discovery networks. Irwin was 44 years old and is survived by his wife and two young children. The tribute special will air Tuesday night at 6 p.m. on Animal Planet.
