Tuesday's News & Notes

Here's a look at today's biggest TV news, tonight's hottest programs and last night's biggest ratings winners.

QUICK CUTS

*Some sad news today. Actor and world champion bodybuilder Mickey Hargitay has died. He was the father of Emmy-winning actress Mariska Hargitay. The senior Hargitay died Thursday at the age of 80. His family has not disclosed a cause of death. The Hungary native moved to the U.S. after World War II where he later met and married actress Jayne Mansfield. They had three children together including Mariska. PTR staff writer Trublu found this statement from his family:
Words cannot express how saddened we are by the loss of Mickey. At the same time, we are so grateful for who he was and is to all of us, and for the love he gave us in our lives. He will continue to be our source of inspiration and strength.
A private service was held for the family.

*Showtime is showing some love for its freshman series Brotherhood. The premium cable channel is renewing the Providence, Rhode Island set drama despite its lower ratings. The critically acclaimed series will get a 10-episode second season. It wraps up its first season Sunday night on Showtime.

*And finally, TVGuide.com has a ton of casting scoop today:
Wayne Brady will guest on Everybody Hates Chris when Julius' successful brother, Louis, spends Thanksgiving with the family in the Nov. 19 episode.... Rescue Me's Callie Thorne is joining Prison Break, and Tori Spelling might stick her face in Clark Kent's business on Smallville. Check out the Ausiello Report for more on either story.... Oliver Platt, John Turturro and Daniel Sunjata will portray George Steinbrenner, Billy Martin and Reggie Jackson in The Bronx Is Burning, ESPN's miniseries about life in New York City at the time of the '77 World Series.... Dancing with the Stars pros Cheryl Burke, Louis Van Amstel and Ashly DelGrosso make their acting debuts on Friday's episode of Disney Channel's The Suite Life of Zack & Cody.

I wouldn't really put Stdio 60 in the loser column because everyone and their mother had already seen it. The true ratings test will be next week with an episode that no one has seen.

Yeah it will. It wasn't really a ratings loser, but the fact that it lost a significant part of its audience for its second half hour is troubling. Hopefully, people will check out the next set of episodes because the critics seem to think that they're better than the pilot.
