Buddy's Cheatin' Heart 'Lights' Things Up

I knew that Jason and Lyla were not ready to be engaged! I've been saying it since the big event happened several episodes ago. It looked like both realized they were too young and were going to just take things slowly, but things fell apart when Jason went off to Austin for quad rugby. Suddenly, his horizons were a little bigger and Lyla became an afterthought, especially when Suzie was around. Last night, things went a step further when Jason kissed her at Stonehenge II. Of course, it's nothing compared to Lyla's indiscretion with Jason's best friend, but they're both symptoms of the bigger issue -- neither is ready to commit to the other. Speaking of commitment, Buddy Garity seems to have made his bed, and even a thoughtful photo album isn't going to keep him from having to lie in it. Kudos to Pam for not letting him back into her house and life. It's just a shame that Lyla had to find out about her dad's many indiscretions the way she did. And then she went and smashed a bunch of Buddy's cars! That's certainly one way to let out some aggression and frustration.

Meanwhile, Julie's world is being completely rocked by the revelation that her dad is seriously considering the coaching job at TMU. I feel pretty confident that he's not going to take it, but they do seem to be keeping us guessing. Perhaps, they're waiting to find out if the show gets a second season. If so, Coach stays in Dillon, if not, he heads to Austin. Clearly, I want him to stay (especially since it means another season), but I do think that Julie would love Austin and Dillon would become a distant memory very quickly. If she really doesn't want to go, I'm sure Tyra would gladly take her place. Her mother is more of a burden than anything, and certainly the reason why she hasn't been as successful as her potential. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that Tami can keep her motivated enough to get the grades that will take her out of her rough situation. That's the thing about this show, there's something to root for in every character, and then something to make you question their integrity. And if that isn't real life, than I don't know what is!
