Lost finally introduced us to those two random survivors last night (complete with an editing job that convinced us that they had been there all along). Here's what Turtlemama and I have to say:
Turtlemama says: Hey, we met new survivors! But they died.
Sure, there was a story in there, but it was boring, uncovered no new aspects of the island and the people that we just met died in the end, so it wasn’t an integral part of the episode…there, that’s all you need to know. You can keep on reading though, if you want to hear my snarky comments on a crappy episode of Lost…who wouldn’t love that?
Then we got to see old scenes, only the "new" survivors were the main focus. You know, I’m typing this as I’m watching it and I’m only five minutes into it and I’m convinced that the Lost producers don’t even know what’s going on. And I’m not the only one either; over at buzzdash.com they have a little survey, and the majority believes the same thing; Lost writers are just as lost as their characters. Another buzz bite asks about episodes that show old episode footage…and no one likes that either. Not sure if old clips with new main characters count, but this episode is seeming more like filler in an already full story, don’t you think?
Well, I called it folks! It was nothing but filler. That episode really did nothing but show us that Paolo saw Ben and Julia talking about Jack performing surgery on Ben, like that was news. And we saw the lives of two survivors, and then they were buried alive, so now they’re dead, with their diamonds, and we’re left asking “What the heck was THAT?”
Next week we see a cat fight between Kate and Julie over Jack…ooooh fun. What’s going on over at the Lost offices? Are they just trying to fill up the rest of the episodes before they have their final three-part series finale where we learn everything and the islanders are rescued? That’s what it seems like to me, and I don’t care for it.
TVFan says: This is great because Turtlemama and I disagree on last night's outing, making it a true She Says, She Says edition. I thought this one was pretty genius. Everything from the rest of the survivors not knowing Nikki and Paolo (along with all of us) to the breath taking ending (literally) that marked the end of these two insignificant character editions made this one pretty awesome. I'm so glad that these last few episodes have renewed my faith in this show. OK, so this one wasn't chock full of answers, but it was entertaining, shocking and fun. Turns out Nikki was an actress and a con artist (along with Paolo), and the two poisoned her executive producer in order to steal his collection of diamonds. Ironically, both Nikki and Paolo died over those same diamonds. She used the medusa spider to temporarily paralyze Paolo, but she didn't count on getting bitten herself. With both of them paralyzed, the rest of the survivors thought they were dead, so in the ground they went. In the end, they were both buried alive (with the diamonds) because of the mix-up. I loved it! There were some fun tidbits thrown in as we watched Nikki and Paolo's days on the island. For instance, Paolo overheard Ben and Julia talking about convincing Jack to perform his surgery by using something that mattered to him (proving that The Others kidnapped Jack, Sawyer and Kate just to get Jack to do the surgery -- Kate and Sawyer were just there for Ben to exploit). Nikki's flashback paralleled her portrayer's (Kiele Sanchez) fate. Nikki's character on "Expose" died, leading her to conclude that she was only a "guest star, and we all know what happens to guest stars." After last night, it seems Sanchez is all too familiar.

I'm surprised everyone is assuming what's their names are dead. Even Locke said earlier in the episode that nothing stays burried on the island. And them clawing their way out of ther grave considering the paralisis was wearing off as we see her open her eyes is just as plausable as Locke surviving being pushed out out a 8 story window onto concrete.
Scooter makes a very good point. But somehow I think we've seen the last of those two.
